With 15 years in diverse educational settings, Ms. Karen has followed her passion and shaped her career both in Vancouver and Hong Kong. She specializes in K-10 core subjects, special education, IEP’s, international curricula, and English as a second language. One of her specialties is building confidence and in-depth understanding in Math to students Grades 3-10!

She has taught, trained, and program managed in both public and private institutions; teaching in international schools, leading a start-up of a tutoring center, and instructing in community centres and welfare and refugee programs. She finds joy and purpose in seeing a student light up, especially when guiding them through moments that require some grit, new perspective, and motivation. Instilling a growth-mindset into her learning space prioritizing safety, humour, and confidence is where she thrives.

Born in Hong Kong and raised in Vancouver from the age of 5, Ms. Karen holds a Bachelor’s of Arts from University of British Columbia and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education from Sunderland University. She is also TESOL certified and is trilingual (English, Cantonese, and Mandarin). She also understands a bit of TeoChew (Chiu Chow) but I wouldn’t rely on her for that one besides for ordering a dish or to crack a laugh!

Outside of teaching, she enjoys playing volleyball and pickleball, hiking, and cooking. She has travelled to 32 countries and her friends would describe her as caring, patient, organized, and a little cheeky!
