With 15 years of experience in diverse educational settings, Ms. Karen has followed her passion and shaped her career by cultivating moments of authentic and meaningful learning both in Vancouver and Hong Kong. She has taught, trained, and program managed in both public and private sectors: from international schools and private academies to tutoring centres and charitable welfare and refugee programs. She finds joy and purpose when a student makes a mental connection whilst sticking with her learners through moments that require development of a growth-mindset, some humour, smarts, and perseverance.

Born in Hong Kong and raised in Vancouver from the age of 5, Ms. Karen holds a Bachelor’s of Arts from University of British Columbia and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education from Sunderland University. She is also TESOL certified and is trilingual (English, Cantonese, and Mandarin). She also understands a bit of TeoChew (Chiu Chow) but I wouldn’t rely on her for that one besides for ordering or to cause a laugh.

Outside of teaching, you can find Ms. Karen playing volleyball or pickleball, hiking or snowshoeing, cooking and eating, or exploring places near and far. She has a knack for organizing and bringing people together as she cares about building communities. So, you may “bump” into her running her own private volleyball sessions or rounding people up for some pickleball. Aside from that, she has travelled to over 30 countries, is a bit dorky, and definitely allergic to beans…and her cat, Neo!
