With 15 years in diverse educational settings, Ms. Karen has followed her passion and shaped her career both in Vancouver and Hong Kong. She specializes in K-10 core subjects, special education, and English as a second language. One of her specialties is building confidence and in-depth understanding in Math to students in Grades 3-10!

She has taught, trained, and program managed in both public and private sectors: from international schools to tutoring centres and public community centres to charitable welfare and refugee programs. As well, in an English institution in downtown, Vancouver. She finds joy and purpose in seeing a student light up, especially when guiding her students through moments that require some grit and motivation. Instilling a growth-mindset into her learning space with safety, humour, and encouragement is where she thrives.

Born in Hong Kong and raised in Vancouver from the age of 5, Ms. Karen holds a Bachelor’s of Arts from University of British Columbia and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education from Sunderland University. She is also TESOL certified and is trilingual (English, Cantonese, and Mandarin). She also understands a bit of TeoChew (Chiu Chow) but I wouldn’t rely on her for that one besides for ordering a dish or to crack a laugh!

Outside of teaching, she enjoys playing volleyball and pickleball, hiking, and cooking. She has travelled to 32 countries and her friends would describe her as caring, patient, organized, and a little cheeky!
